Find what
works.

Clutch0 is a neutral, evidence-driven information and research hub about invasive green iguana populations—where they are established outside their appropriate ecological context, what is known, and what still needs to be tested.

A necessary distinction

Not anti-iguana.
Anti-invasive-population.

Green iguanas belong in their native range. Clutch0 addresses established invasive populations and the specific ecological context around them—not the species as a whole, and never native, endemic, or genetically significant iguana populations that require conservation.

The mission

Eradication when it is right and achievable.

Clutch0 supports the complete eradication of invasive green iguana populations from ecosystems where those populations do not naturally belong, wherever eradication is ecologically appropriate, lawful, humane, and realistically achievable.

Where eradication is not presently feasible, we support evidence-based population reduction, containment, prevention of further spread, protection of native species and ecosystems, and continued research into more effective management strategies.

“Number removed is not the same thing as success.”

Evidence, labeled

Certainty should be visible.

Established

Invasive populations can cause documented harm.

Official agencies and research document impacts that can include native wildlife, agriculture, vegetation and burrowing-related infrastructure damage. The evidence and its limits vary by place.

Developing

Management must be measured, not assumed.

Removal programmes can reduce encounters or numbers, but monitoring population trajectory, spread and ecological outcome matters more than a headline removal count.

Hypothesis

Reproduction may be a useful leverage point.

Targeting reproductive females, nesting areas or clutches may improve management alongside established interventions. It is a question to test—not a field-ready Clutch0 protocol.

Unknown

Key answers are still missing.

How much reproductive intervention changes recruitment, under which conditions, and at what cost remains insufficiently resolved. See open questions.

Population by population

There is no single “iguana problem.”

A regional label is never enough. Status, law, native species, genetics, pathways of introduction, impacts and management capacity must be checked individually.

01

Florida

FWC classifies green iguanas as nonnative invasive and sets legal and humane-management limits.

02

Puerto Rico

Research documents agricultural impacts and tests mitigation in a distinct island context.

03

Taiwan

Government agencies run a coordinated, reported removal response while emphasizing animal welfare.

04

Caribbean islands

Each island needs its own assessment, especially where native iguanas or genetic risks are present.

The Clutch0 standard

“The goal is not to prove Clutch0 right. The goal is to find what works.”

We welcome stronger evidence, corrections, null results, and disagreement that is specific and sourced.

The best possible ending

One day, this project should be unnecessary.

Clutch0 is not built to grow forever. Its greatest success would be a world in which invasive populations are resolved, ecosystems recover, and there is nothing meaningful left for this project to contribute.
